Wonderful Wednesday Número 18 of 2018

Number eighten of twenty eighteen, oh I love repeating numbers, I really do. Hello and welcome to Wonderful Wednesday, I hope you're having a glorious day. I'm tip tapping this post of alllll the good stuff out at lunch time. After a SHOCKER of a headache - which has finally passed, I got the cleaning done and all the mundane, rather comforting, house jobs ticked off my list.

I like to be in a particular mindspace to write these posts - unhurried, calm, pensative and armed with mugs of steaming black tea with Bon Iver playing in the background. This week seems to be flying by, I can't believe it's Wednesday already! Shall we get on with all the good stuff? My mind is absolutely overflowing with things I'd like to pop down on this screen.

Tea, tea and more tea.
I know it makes it into EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. But really, it wouldn't be Wednesday, or any day for that matter if I wasn't declaring my complete and uttler love for tea. Right now, I'm keeping it simple with black tea all on it's own. Delightful!

Work, work, work, work, work.
My day job is keeping me on my toes! We've just finished the show weeks for the Junior classes and it's been exhausting and overwhelming, emotional and exhilerating. Yesterday we sat down to re-write one of the scripts, as it was the first time we gave this particular play a go. It needed something extra, a little unusual magic. I channeled by inner Willy Wonker and had the team in absolute stitches with ideas. One of my favourite things is making others laugh.

Reasons to be happy.
A few times this week, my students have entered the class in a bit of a blah Monday mood. In these cases, I've written off my carefully planned warm up and instead scribbled on the board "Reasons to be happy." Popping on the song Happy by Pharrell. I've asked them to tell me as many reasons to be happy as they possibly can. At first, it is painstakingly slow... "no homework today..." is the main one. Then I mention a special few words - "well, my reason to be happy is chocolate. Oh my gooooodness! I ate some chocolate today and it was every kind of wonderful. Who else has eaten chocolate this week?" Suddenly hands are flying up, everyone is smiling and they're fighting to tell me their good stuff including, but not limited to; ice-cream, sweets, strawberries, oranges, fluffy white clouds, sunshine, music, stopping at the park, seeing their grandad, their cat, their dog, their caterpillars (ahem...more to be said on caterpillars in a bit.) The list was endless. It's amazing what just the mention of chocolate can do isn't it ;).

Teens.
I have a class of late teens, who quite frankly aren't too happy about having to take extra English classes to bump their level up. Last night they trickled into class in a very can't be bothered, teenage way. After the usual catch ups, where they told me alllllll of the gossip, I asked them how confident they felt with giving directions in English, names of places in a town and time tables. These three things are coming up in their exams in just a few weeks. "Pfffft Peta! I can't, I can't remember lots of things." So I told them to stand up and follow me. At the door of the school I said "Give me directions to the church." As one student began giving directions, we followed them. It was an hour of walking around town, giving actual directions, talking about actual places in the town and reading shop timetables to practise telling the time in English. They probably spoke more English and got more out of that class than they have all term!

Sunshine.
That glorious feeling of tingly warm fuzziness on my face and shoulders is like no other, I am so happy the sun is shining today.

St.Jordi.
St. Jordi or Saint George's day is a really special day here in Catalunya. The streets fill with stalls selling roses and books which are given to friends, family and partners. I was very very lucky to receive three roses from my friends, two which are sat in a vase on my dining room table making me smile whenever they catch my eye. The other is a felt rose brooch which I had pinned on all day yesterday.

We must stay in our own lane to reach our destinations.
I fell into the comparison trap a few days ago. I can't even remember how I slipped and fell, it could have been whilst scrolling instagram or reading through twitter - either way I fell and I fell hard. I was on the brink of coming up with a whole plan of how I could be more like Them - which is laughable considering I can't even remember who the 'them' was. I gave myself a good talking to and reminded myself that I am me, and you are you. We're on different paths, our lives are different, everything about us is working towards something totally and utterly unique. My destinations are nothing like anyone elses, and with time, authenticity and being 100% myself, I'll get there...wherever there may be.

Putting myself first.
I had another wake up call this week; I seem to be have rather a few at the moment. It's to do with putting yourself first. I was listening to Jess Lively's Podcast and she mentioned that she has been able to donate more than 100,000 dollars over the past few years to an organisation called Pencils For Promise - they build schools and create educational programs for those who need them. She then followed that by saying, the only way I could do this was by putting myself first. Before we can give to others, we must first look after ourselves, our well-being, the things that make our soul and self happy. When we do so, it all flows together and we can then give to others. So, I'm keeping the EasyJet voice in my head as a mantra - put your oxygen mask on before you help others.

Food Obsessions.
We alllll know what I'm like about food, I become obsessed with certain snacks or dishes and right now I am pretty much only eating two things. Carrot Cake Pancakes and Potato, Broccoli and Apple Patties . Why?! Who knows, but I never question my food obsessions any more. I just riiiiiide the wave of yumminess whilst believing that my body is obviously craving certain foods for a reason.

Happiness Videos.
On Sunday I made one of my happiness videos of little moments that brought me joy from the weekend. They always make me smile, but this one put an extra big smile on my face for some reason!

Two whole weeks of Fray.
In just under two weeks my other half Fraser, or Fray as I call him, is coming to stay for two whole weeks and I'm so bloomin' excited! I'm hoping for picnics, films, walks, cat cuddles and allllll the yummy food as well as lots and lots of laughter.

That's all my wonderful for today, I could go on and on and on but I think I'd better sign off here! I hope you're having such a lovely day, please do pop over and read the other Wonderful Wednesday Writer's posts here: SallyJoHelenMichelleSarahKateCatSamEl

Sending lots of love and cat cuddles your way,
