It's funny how particular songs can transport you back in time evoking memories and feelings of days gone by. Every person has a different soundtrack to their life, with varying rhythms, melodies and lyrics. Each song will mean something different for each person. The Spice Girls along with S Club 7 will instantly take me back to my childhood, creating dance routines with my cousins to show our loved ones at family get togethers.
I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston will send me back to the hours and hours I spent with my mum learning new songs. I desperately wanted to be a singer and my mum would sit and listen to me practice over and over again. This was the song that my mum told me I wasn't ready to sing in public and I went for it anyway. I remember being about ten and thinking "oh god, maybe mum is right, maybe I shouldn't be doing this." But the look in her eyes at the back of the room as I finished on the final note was a gaze of proudness as she mouthed the words "you did it" to me on the stage. At sixteen I got my first real job as a singer in a hotel and this was part of my set each night. I was later offered a job in Ibiza as a singer in a beautiful hotel and turned it down for a stable, sensible job...oh Peta what were you thinking?!
Mr Brightside by The Killers reminds me of studying for my IGCSE exams, I really struggled with studying and spent more time creating a colour coded study timetable than I did revising. Oops. [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGdGFtwCNBE]
Better Together By Jack Johnson flies me all the way to the sandy beaches of Anantara Dhigu in The Maldives, I'd recently purchased Jack Johnson's Album and had it on repeat for the duration of the holiday. [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u57d4_b_YgI]
Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen lands me on the dance floor of The Boscarn a very small club in the town I'm from in Cornwall screaming the lyrics as loud as we could whilst doing all of the actions.
Flowers In The Window by Travis was played over and over again as I helped Laura to plan her wedding. [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFvfX3Mfd9E]
My favourite song of all time is You're Lovely To Me by Lucky Jim, I'm not really sure why I've always loved it so much and I've been listening to it since I was about fourteen. It had to make it into the playlist. [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=viD_Dz9e7EQ]
I Don't Want To Be by Gavin De Graw was a pick me up song when times got a little tough. [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gFCW3PHBws]
Cake By The Ocean by DNCE will always remind me of the start of Summer 2016.
A song that will probably always remind me of life right now is The Ocean by Mike Perry.
I wonder what the rest of my playlist will sound like? I guess we'll just have to wait and see...
