The Fondest Of Memories

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset It's the day after my birthday and considering the copious amounts of alcohol consumed yesterday and the 4 hours of sleep I got I should be feeling horrendous. Yet I'm feeling like one of the luckiest people in the world. My twenty sixth birthday will be forever remembered with the fondest of memories. It was made special by so many people who completely bowled me over with their kindness, generosity and love.

It all started on Friday, I arrived at work and everyone kept wishing me a Happy Birthday. I was so confused. First off, I hadn't told anyone it was my birthday and secondly, well... it wasn't. Not until Saturday anyway. Whilst the fast paced craziness of work took over I soon got distracted and thought nothing more of it. At 18:30 there was a knock on my classroom door, I opened it to find my two bosses and the director of studies standing on the other side, with the biggest grins in the world holding a beautiful hamper full of flowers and plants. I wont lie, I very very nearly cried. It was such a lovely, thoughtful gift and one I wasn't expecting in a million years.

Once my student's realised it was soon to be my birthday they set to, making the cutest birthday cards and singing Happy Birthday over and over again. At 20:00 I finished work and went for a drink and tapas with Adam and Claire, it was the perfect end to a hectic day.

On Saturday I woke up early, lazily found my way to the kitchen and made a cup of tea. I wished Arthur cat a very happy first birthday and nibbled on some watermelon. I did headspace followed by half an hour of yoga and slowly got dressed. I was going for breakfast with my family in town so I just put some shorts, a hoodie and my trainers on and set off. When I arrived they were all dressed up, thanks for the heads up guys!!

We headed to Vilanova for lunch where my lovely mother plied me with wine, we laughed until tears ran down our cheeks and enjoyed a delicious meal. I eventually went home to get changed and meet up with friends for the wine festival in town. They surprised me with one of the most beautiful gifts I have ever received. A book entitled "26 Reasons We Loves Peta". It completely overwhelmed me and I have shed quite a few tears today sat reading a journal that I will treasure forever. After the festival we headed to a club where we joked around, had very intense (albeit drunk) conversations about the future and giggled our way through a couple of gin and tonics. Arriving home in the very early hours of the morning I made myself a bowl of porridge (god knows why I fancied porridge) and climbed into bed.

This weekend was made so very special by the people I shared it with, the surprise encounters with friends I haven't seen in years and phone calls and messages that had me in tears of joy throughout the day. It's been a week for celebrations, especially after I decided to stay on at the school for another year. May celebrations, good times, unexpected moments and adventures sum up twenty six. I have a feeling it's going to be a year to remember.
